Next Rust wipe: date and calendar

Facepunch publishes a mandatory update on the first Thursday of every month: that day the map must be reset, and players can no longer join a server that is not up to date. This page works out the next date in your time zone and recalls the steps to follow. The procedure applies to a managed Rust server as well as a server on your own VPS.

Your schedule shapes your audience: a weekly wipe attracts players who like starting from scratch, while a monthly wipe that keeps blueprints attracts those who build over time. Announce the rule clearly and above all stick to it: nothing empties a server faster than a surprise wipe.

How to wipe your server properly

Warn your players a few days ahead, then again on the day.
Stop the server, then update it with SteamCMD.
Reinstall Oxide: the update overwrites its files, and the server would start without your plugins.
Delete the map and save files (.map and .sav) in the server identity folder, and change the seed if you want a new map.
Back up the plugin data you want to keep before restarting.

Do I have to wipe my server?

The map must be reset at each monthly update, because the world format changes. Wiping the blueprints players have learned is optional: many servers only do it every second month.

What happens if I do not update my server?

Players, whose game client updates automatically, can no longer join: the versions must match. A server that is not updated effectively disappears, along with its population.

Can I wipe more often?

Yes, many servers wipe the map weekly or every two weeks to revive activity. Announce the schedule clearly and stick to it: unpredictability is what drives regular players away.

How do I wipe a Rust server properly?
