Housing, also called data center colocation, means installing your own servers in a facility run by a hosting provider. You keep ownership of the hardware and control of your configuration, while the data center provides what is most expensive to build yourself: redundant power, cooling, physical security and carrier connectivity.
With a dedicated server, you rent a machine that belongs to the provider: you handle neither the purchase nor hardware failures. With housing, you buy and own your servers and only pay for hosting them. Housing becomes worthwhile as soon as you have specific hardware, a fleet to consolidate, or a volume that makes buying cheaper than renting over time. If you would rather not manage any hardware, our dedicated servers are a better fit.
The choice depends on the number of servers, the power they draw and how fast you expect to grow. It is better to plan one size up than to have to move six months later.
Before installation, check that your hardware is rack-mounted with the right rails, estimate the power it actually draws, plan for power redundancy if your service must stay available at all times, and prepare your IP addressing plan. Our team reviews these points with you beforehand so that commissioning goes smoothly.
