Ordering and activating an NVHCloud VPS

This guide walks you through your first order, from creating your account to your first connection to the server. The whole process takes a few minutes; the VPS itself is delivered automatically in under 60 seconds once payment is confirmed.

1. Create your account

Go to the NVHCloud client area and create an account with your email address or your Discord account. Confirm your address to access the catalogue. This is also where you will manage your services, invoices and support requests.

2. Choose the range

A VPS gives you full access to the server, with the responsibility that comes with it: updates, security, backups. If you do not want to manage a system, web hosting is a better fit.

3. Choose the size

The following guidelines match the most common uses. They are covered in detail in our guide how many vCPUs and how much RAM for a VPS (in French).

If in doubt, start with the smaller size: you can move to a bigger plan later without reinstalling. Current prices are shown on each offer page.

4. Choose the operating system

• Ubuntu 24.04 LTS: the recommended default. It is the best-documented system, with recent software and five years of security updates. All our guides are written for it.
• Debian 12: very stable and lightweight, popular for servers that must run for a long time without changes.
• Windows Server: only on the Windows VPS range, for software that requires it.

Also set a recognisable hostname, for example web01 or fivem-prod. If you change your mind later, the system can be reinstalled from the client area: see reinstalling a VPS operating system.

5. Payment and delivery

Once payment is confirmed, the VPS is created automatically, usually in under 60 seconds. You receive a summary email with its public IP address. The Anti-DDoS protection is active from delivery, with nothing to configure.

6. Get your access details

In the client area, open My services → your VPS → Access. You will find the IP address, the user (root or the user provided) and the initial password, or the option to import your SSH key. If you already have an SSH key, import it: you will log in without a password from day one.

7. First connection

From PowerShell or Windows Terminal, or from Terminal on macOS and Linux:

ssh root@YOUR_IP

Accept the server fingerprint by typing yes, then enter the password: it is not displayed as you type, which is normal. For a Windows VPS, use Remote Desktop Connection with the IP address and the credentials provided.

8. What next?

Before installing your project, take fifteen minutes to secure the server: updates, a personal user, an SSH key and a firewall. Everything is explained in first steps on your VPS, then securing SSH. Then, depending on your project:

• A website: Nginx and HTTPS, or WordPress.
• A game server: FiveM (in French), Minecraft or Rust.
• Containerised applications: Docker.
